First year with a pontoon and loving it!! What are opinions on using a transom saver while trailering a pontoon? I'm hearing differing views on this. I use one on my Cobia bowrider and it works great. I keep hearing that on a pontoon with the Aluminum transom, a transom saver is not necessary. My thoughtsmake me wonder over time if the constant vibration of the weight of the motor on the transom could lead to stress cracks at the welds. By the way the boat is a 17' Sweetwater with a 40 Yamaha mounted. Wife and I absolutely love it due to its smaller size but can still load 9 people on her and enjoy the water.

I use transom savers on all my boats. Maybe you don't really need it but,,,,,It surely can not hurt anything.

I have never used on a toon. Last toon I sold was 13 years old. I have never seen anyone using one. Maybe with a larger motor....can't see how it would hurt.

Re: Transom saver?????

Summer before last I was chatting with my welder when picking up my barge after having cracks in the motor pod repaired. I asked him point blank if they were caused by trailering without a transom saver. His response? "I ain't sure, but you won't catch me towin' without one." Okay, it's anecdote day for me. A week ago we were following a bass boat with a 200 horse outboard hanging off the back with no transom saver. The PT&T was handling the weight of the motor just fine of course, but there was very discernible bouncing and slight transom flex, and it was not an old boat. The admiral watched the rig for a minute then asked why they didn't have "one of those things like we use". I told her some people didn't believe in them. She was incredulous.

My old bass buggy with a 50 horse Merc. 2 stroke came with one that the previous owner installed and it looks like it saves a lot of stress on the transom. So I use mine. Just seems a lot cheaper than rebuilding a transom to me.

SunTracker says to use one. It only takes seconds to connect, so I see no reason not to use it.
