Where can I find the proper procedure to remove and install a new transom seal on my 83 Galaxy 210CC.As you all know Galaxy has been out of business for a while now and manuals are hard to find. Thank you for all the help once again!

Galaxy never had that kind of information anyway, it would be the engine/drive manufacturer. Such as Volvo, Mercruiser, OMC.
Which do you have?

I have heard you can replace it with the outdrive still on, but I'm not sure if its worth the headache to try and do it with the outdrive on.

the biggest problem, IMHO, would be getting to the clamp around the intermediate housing. You should be able to slip the boot over the outdrive.

I assume you get to the clamp from the inside?Sorry if these questions seem dumb but I dont have a manual or book for it.

U DO, unfortunately I do not remember the location of the of the screw. I also don't know if the position of the screw was purposefully uniform between units.

It's just a giant hose clamp Kracker. I don't think you need a book for that. They'd probably tell you to remove the drive, anyway.

Just crawl into the back of the boat and look all around the boot for the screw.

Why do you need a new boot anyway? Mine is now 30 years old and just fine.

I changed mine with the drive on without any problem. Hardest part getting all the old sealer off. To get the new seal on you do have to streach it some. I took the old seal off over the drive and figured the new seal would streach better and it did. Manual will tell you to remove the drive.
I not sure but my new seal said to use a certain sealer. Pretty sure it was Polyurethane but you may want to ask when order your new seal. Just a big hose clamp to attach to the out drive. Metal ring with lots of screws to attach to the boat. Use lots of sealer and after get it all together do the clean up.

As boatsist says.Just get your new boot and go throw it in the sun. Now reomve all the screws aroun d the perimeter and pull the metal ring out over the drive.Be aware which orientation the old boot was in as you'll notice the top may be taller than the bottom or vice versa.Next pull the old boot away from the hull and look on the stb side inside, you should see the clamp from there.Loosen the clamp and remove the boot. You might as well just cut a slice through it so you don't have to wrestle it over the drive. Now take a scraper and remove the old sealer from the hull and clean up with Acetone.By this time the new boot ought to be nice and soft from the sun,so go ahead and put it on.

Re: transom seal removal and install?

You should use a mild cement like gaskacinch on the intermediate housing and 5200 on the transom. It would be best if you had some help when you do it. Take about 4 drill bits that will just fit into the transom holes. Apply the glue to the intermediate housing and pull your boot upon the sealing surface.

Rapidly have someone put the drill bits thru the holes of the boot and into the corresponding holes in the transom, evenly spaced around the boot. Then rotate the boot on the intermediate housing until there is no rotational tension on the boot. Install the clamp.

Now you can place an 1/8" bead of your sealant on the transom making a ring of it right over the screw holes. Position your ring and begin to start the screws, one on the left, one on the right, one on the top and one on the bottom. Do not tighten them down. Now go around and start the screws in the remaining holes in a pattern as if you were torquing the lug nuts on your wheels. Once they are all in, you can tighten them down in the same crosshatch manner.

Do not put the screws in in a circular pattern. If you do you stand the chance of having boot holes not lined up with transom holes once you get near the last of them.

Re: transom seal removal and install?

Thanks for all your great help!! And to answer your question boom, it tore due to just good ol dry rot.I got really short of time last year and only had it in the water once. The boat was in pathetic shape when I got it.Replaced floor, teak, rebuilt motor, outdrive, rewired ...I could go on for days.I must admit, I couldnt have done it without the help of people like you and Don and everyone else who has been so kind to share your knowledge.Well i am rambling on so, Thanks again.

And don't forget to give the wood at the bottom of the transom a good inspection.
When there is dry rot to the boot, water will seep in and run to the bottom of the transom. And all that I have seen, there was raw wood where they had cut out the hole.
