Transom & stringer glass question

When replacing a transom do you glass the new wood, let it dry and then attach to the outer skin of fiberglass? Do you do the same for stringers? I have read hundreds of posts and am still not clear about this. Also, how do you prepare the old glass on the hull to best attach the new stringers?

Thanks,

This is a good article to educate you about the different kinds of plywood you can use.

www.uscomposites.com is a good resource for your resin and glass.

Re: Transom & stringer glass question

For the linked transom thread:

That guy did a pretty good job for an outboard boat... keep in mind there are some differences for an I/O or inboard, like transom thickness and height.

Also note that the use of PL polyurethane in boats, especially transoms, is still somewhat experimental.

I'd recommend the thread that Oops linked, or if you want a step by step tutorial to look at, this how to on Bateau's site is quite good:

http://www.bateau2.com/howto/transom_repair/index.php

I also recommend most of the howto articles there if you want to learn about their methods for fastener-free composite construction.
