So when pulling off the deck, I was worried about transom rot. The deck is trash, the stringers are surprisingly okay, except for a couple inch-or-two spots along rotted bulkheads. I Dremelled the deck right up to the stern, and saw clean fiberglass. Then, I drilled an exploratory hole next to the outdrive housing from the inside of the boat, and the drill had no resistance. Uh oh. So, I Dremelled off a patch, and yeah, all rotten, but the fiberglass stern is behind it and okay.

There are also glassed in pieces of plywood starboard and port of the drive piece, and those seem to be okay:

So, I know I have to tear out and replace that wood around the housing, but I'm stuck on terminology. Here's my stern from inside the boat in beautiful technicolor, as only MS Paint can provide:

Traditionally, I thought the blue box was the transom, but with all the transom problems I've seen on this forum, it seems like most are talking about the red box, where I have the test section circled. Is that the piece called the transom? What are the green pieces of plywood called (the good section is circled in green, too)?

The yellow piece was what I was worried about ripping off the deck, but the stern there looks exactly like the bottom of the hull, kind of reddish and unbroken and pretty d*mn strong.
