Transom to bow conversion?

I won a cheap Minkota trolling motor that is setup for the transom. I've searched the forum but couldn't find the info I was looking for...
Surely there is a way to spin the head and shaft to make it a bow mount.

Pictures really help if anyone has any on how this is done. Possibly it's just a couple of pins to pull? I'd hate to mess up my new bream trophy!

Many thanks.

No pictures necessary. Remove the screw(s) that holds the head on. Turn it 180 degrees and insert the screw(s). If there is no matching screw hole, drill one being careful not to drill into the wires. Now that the conversion is done, you might be surprised to learn that the shaft is too short for bow mount use. Most transom mount motors have 36 inch shafts (give or take a little). Depending on the boat that may be ok.

What kind of boat are you looking to mount the motor on?

I agree with Silvertip that the length of the shaft may be an issue as transoms are typically shorter than bow-mounts.

If I were you I'd sell the brand new Minn Kota and buy a used bow-mount...you may also want to consider the remote controlled-Minn Kota so that you can be anywhere on the boat and be in control of the motor. Kinda pricey though.

Re: Transom to bow conversion?

I have a 15ft Duracraft. I had her mounted, though backwards, on the bow and the length was not an issue.

Thanks for the tips. I'll attempt to tackle this one tonight.

Cheers.
