Transom wedge advice

After my transom rebuild i am considering adding a 5* transom wedge.
Before the rebuild i noticed it would not trim out to the point of blow out.
The old transom had sagged back a bit so that would have effected the full out trim.
I also thought this may help with the stress on the transom bolt areas.
What do you guys think?
I boats do not list this part so i thought it was ok to post a link..:)

Gary I think I would mount the engine cavitation plate about an inch to an inch half above the bottom of the boat and see how it does before I spent that 150 dollars.

I had looked into the wedge system last year. I agree w/Reel Poor and I would suggest to re-set up your outboard and save your money first.

The way I re-set mine (which is listed in the prop section) was to raise it up one hole.... recorded results and then raised it again and finally found the outboard ran better raised (not totally to the top but higher than before).

If you want to try the set up be sure you keep your eye on your water pick up and tell tale (I have a pressure guage installed).

Thanks guys,
I had raised it before the transom rebuild. It helped but would still not trim to the point of blow out. That may have been from the transom sagging though.
Before the rebuild i put a straight edge on it and it was bowed out a good half inch or better.
I had the cav plate about 1.25 inches above the bottom of the hull..

Consider a used or lower cost jack plate. At least you will have some adjustment possibility. I would just fear that is you invest in a wedge and it does not work...... you will only have 2 choices wedge in or wedge out.

Gary, i can't see where it would hurt, and you have to spend that ebay money on something.

I missed it. What did he finally get for his boat?

Keeping it legal.......... I have thought about a wedge also since I have about 20 degrees (fore-aft) dead rise in my transom and cannot blow out either. I'm jacked up about as high as I can go (verified by performance) But in a straightaway I would like to have a few more degrees.

I'm going to go with Bob on this one, look on eBay for a good used jack plate, it's going to give you a lot more versatility; and it will make the boat perform better. I put one on my boat and it was an instant improvement. If you're looking to spend 150 on the wedges, you can probably get a good used jack plate for just a couple dollars more.

I already ordered it...
Hey i can always add a jack plate also. I'll see how it performs first.
If i go with a 6 inch setback will the steering cables still work ok?
I also had to order that small metal trim line thats coiled under the pump. The old one was bent and had a slow leak...that thing was 54 bucks! kind of high for a little metal line.
I just want to get everything ready before i set the engine back on..

Re: Transom wedge advice

I recently installed a jack plate with 10" of setback; I had plenty of wiring and cables for the move, it really didn't require much as going back you're only changing the angle of everything slightly. I would imagine you have plenty to go back 6".
