588_2_.jpgI picked up a project toon 1980 Aqua Patio 21' without a motor or console that was so cheap I could not pass it up. It was all good since I have a 25 Johnson electric start with controls and steering system. I noticed that it was missing the transom and when I asked the seller about it he told me it was rotten and he threw it away. Well okay I purchased a new aluminum universal transom $400 including shipping and it is in transit right now. I want to take the family fishing so I don't care about speed or tubing etc. The trailer is pretty rotten and stuck all the way up I had to remove 2 of the deck boards to get at the mechanism so that I could drop/launch the toon to see if it floats. I'm looking at some welding before I can safely take it to the launch site. I know that I am digressing but I am amazed at how much work I have yet to do and at how much work I have been able to accomplish in only 3 hours. I am really happy with this project and don't regret this purchase at all! Now to my problem: I have no reference to how the old transom/motor was positioned. like should the motor sit behind the toons or even with the toons? I see no guide marks or holes to show where the original transom sat. Is there an ideal protocol for mounting the transom/motor? S6302191.jpgS6302190.jpgS6302189.jpgS6302192.jpg

Mine is just far enough back that you can tilt the motor full up without hitting anything. My prop sits just foward of the tube ends. seams to work pretty well on these older low powered toon. The really ols steel one we had as a kid was setup the same way. the anty vent plate should be about even with the tube bottom. when its tilted to the shallow run position the waterpickup will still be submerged.
