I have a 1984 hydra sport bass boat with a 150 on it. The transom is cracked on it and I dont have 2500.00 to have it repaired. I am a fairly handy person and mechanically inclined....how hard is it to repair?

I have no idea how to do it but it looks like I cut it out repair it .
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: transom

There is a bunch of good info on this site, do a search, and you will have plenty to read. If after that, you have more questions, ask away!. I will say that it is not as hard as it looks, but you will want to do all work from the inside. You never, ever want to cut the outside shell at all, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. the end result can be at the least just nasty looking, and at the worst downright dangerous. Good luck....

Re: transom

Is this true when the outside is also cracked ?
It is cracked across the botom of the motor bracket...it almost looks like someone hit the motor while it was on the trailer and pushed the motor into the transom.

Re: transom

Usually this is from a weak transom. If you check, the area around the bottom of the bracket is probably soft.

Re: transom

Even if the outer shell has a crack, it is still better to repair that crack than it is to cut the entire transom out from the outside. Most likely, the crack doesn't go all the way through, but rather is a gelcoat crack (crazing). As gelcoat ages, it gets more brittle, and you combine that with the transom flexing under power, the gel ends up cracking. As long as the layup itself isn't cracked, it isn't a huge deal, but either way it is an easy fix. Good luck....
