I have a 1987 Sunbird Corsair I/O, 3.0 litre, 4 cyl. Mercruiser. The boat is in great shape with the exception of a bad transom. The top of the outdrive now has about an 1/2" gap from the transom. What is the best method to replace the transom? Seacast? And, how labor-intensive will it be? Lokks like a real pain to me. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Nah,.... Not Really...............

Pull the Outdrive,....
Pull the Engine,.......
Pull the Transom Assembley,.......
Cut Out the Rotten Transom,........

Then put it All back together...........

Seacast is Not an option,.........
And, how labor-intensive will it be?
VERY,.......... Especially if you're Paying somebody Else to do it............
No Doubt,.. Way More than a 1987 Sunbird Corsair is Worth,..... Even on a Good Day....................

Re: transom

Alot of work ahead for you. Do what;s listed above and then take the trim off and then the fun starts.I used a plumbers 3 quarter inch drill bit and drill small holes and make sure your not off center. then chip away and use a vacuum to get the access. Buy marine plywood and i used west marine expoxy and alot of clamps. Average cost of a marina is 1000 to 2 ooo

Re: transom

I repaired the transom of a 20' center console with Seacast. While I was at it I poured a couple of extra stringers in the back alongside those that were already there and I think O.K. and tied into the transom. Lifted off the outboard engine, cut off the glass cap on the transom and removed the old wood from inside the transom with a chainsaw. Poured the Seacast, recapped the transom, rehung the engine and you can barely tell it had been touched. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Less work, looks better, stronger, impervious to water and will last forever. Seacast "not an option" my a$$.

He's got an I/O Mercruiser,............

Seacast is Not an Option,...............

You have to preserve the "Hole" in the transom,........
And,....... Have the Finished Thickness between 2"s,+ 2 1/8th"s......................

The Effort to do this with Seacast would be More Work than Doing it Right..................
