Transome boat motor hole placement

I am trying to decide where I should start with setting my motor on a new custom 17' aluminum boat. Where would you recommend setting my cavitation plate on my 60hp ETEC for an initial starting point? My transom has a 6" set back built into it. I dont want to mount it too low and not be able to get the maximum benefit from the hull design.

The general rule is the cavitation plate should be about level with the bottom of the transom, give or take about an inch, but it's going to be a compromise anyway, that's why some folks use jack plates. Good Luck!

I am aware of the plate being generaly at the bottom of the transome, but should I line it up with the bottom of the hull V, the bottom of the transom, or between the 2?

I would start about an inch above the V bottom.Leave yourself room in either direction.
From that direction its really hard to evaluate the shape of the bottom.

You will end up several inches above the lowest point, so don't start too low.
