I have a weak transom, (1/8") alluminum and no back corner top plates. I have to build it up to support at least a 120lb motor. I was thinking about putting 1 1/2" marine board for the support and possibley running 1/4" metal straps for the back corner supports. Would this work? How do I need to bolt the board on below watter line to avoid leaks?

Re: Transome Build up

i just redid my transom, the bottom bolts on mine there was 2 lead/rubber seals that i just re-used cause they were in good condition, and they just went between the wood and the transom, see if you can find some seals then use a little silicone for a final seal, hadnt had any leaks yet.

Re: Transome Build up

use marine sealant 3M 5200 or 4200 , never put silicone in a boat.
