how do I replace a rotten a transom in a 1974- 16 ft fiberglass crestliner bow rider with a splashwell?

Same as most fiberglass OB boats w/ a splashwell:


Cut the splashwell off at the gunwale & remove it for re-installation after the repair

Or

Remove the boat's cap & splashwell as a unit & reinstall after the repair

Be prepared for additional wood needing to be replaced: Transoms, decks & stringers are often equally compromised if 1 is.

Post up some pix of your rig, splashwell, cap & transom.

Dig into the resto threads. Lots of great info in here. Much of it NOT specific to any 1 boat maker or model. Generally similar methods, materials & procedures.

i started my transom replacement thinking i needed the transom and possibly the stringers and deck. turned out the deck and transom were not the worst part of the rot. they were rotting but the stringers were completely gone. read lots and lots before diving into a project like this. I "educated" myself for two weeks before i even started removing the motor off my boat. So much info here its unreal and probably the best group of guys you could want helping you with a restore. when they say something you can take it to the bank they know what there talking about

thanks for the help.......I had replaced the stringers and the floor, looked great until I forgot to raise my motor backing over the driveway apron. the mount of the trim unit went into the transom creating 2 holes. Now I knew it was rotten also. Didn't see it while repairing the other parts. shame on me, now I think I have to tear up some of my new work to get the transom done
