Transplant Help Needed

I have two Johnnyrudes in desperate need of powerhead transplants. The first is a 1982 35hp Evinrude. The second is a 2000 25hp Evinrude. Both power heads are toast. A potential donor has appeared in the form of a 1988 28hp Johnnyrude.

I have tried to cross reference in the parts lists, but can't really tell if either is a bolt-up operation.

Can one of you sage posters advise me please.

Re: Transplant Help Needed

The '88 powerhead should bolt right up to your '82 chassis. If you have the parts lists, the powerhead base gasket is the one to check.

You'll have to decide whether to swap in the '82 intake and fuel system, as the cold start parts changed between '82 and '88 (butterfly choke on '82 and primer system on the '88). If you use your '82 carb, make sure you check it out, as it may have been a contributor to that powerhead having become "toast"...

I'm not familiar enough with the 2000 to say whether it would work that far up or not...

I might be interested in the '82 short block for parts if it is available and depending on how toasted it may be...

- Scott

Thanks Chinewalker. It appears that all will bolt up. The crankshafts match on the 1988 and 2000, but have a different # for the 1982. There may be a difference in splines.
