hello
they are about. make sure you weld an extension to it. it doesnt work very well. you cant tell how close the alignment is or which way the motor has to move and its all but impossible to horse on the gimbal to move it into alignment with just an old shaft. I see it done all the time but I can go back and find problems. easier to buy the correct tool for the job. I posted all the dimensions to make the tool last august or september.
good luck and I dont mean to discourge ya but the old shaft for a tool isnt really very good.

Would this work OK if there was a good way to machine the splines off the shaft? (as well as weld an extension to it).Just a thought, but would only be feasible ($$$)if machine work and welding was a freebie.DHP

It has to be perfectly straight. You cant just eyeball it and try to get it straight. If you align the engine wrong you create problems that can be much more expensive that the cost of the right tool. Buy the tool, it's worth it.

The price of the Alignment Tools has Dropped thru the Floor at Ebay.....
What Were going for up to $100.00..
Are Now selling for $20./$50.......
Buy the Right Tool......
Removing the Splines is not really the answer....
You'll also need the gimbal bearing surface moved....
And, as stated by rodbolt,
You'll end up with a SubStandard Tool.....

When I went looking for an alignment tool, all the dealers on ebay couldn't tell me whether they had the new or old tool. The new tool will fit old and new style, the old will only fit old unless you update it.

I ended up spending $69 plus modest shipping to get this one and was VERY happy with the quality.

http://www.mercstuff.com/alignmenttool.htm
