I'm looking into changing my 90 Bayliner Capri bowrider into a outboard? Now when I take the outdrive off would I have to extend that part right to the back of the boat and when cutting out the swim platform how thick should I make the new transom? 1 inch, 2 inch, 3 inch? I'm looking to put a
90hp or a 115hp outboard on it. Just want it to be strong enough to hold it? Because the boat has the infamous 90hp Force L Drive on it which is extinct to my knowledge from post on here. Plus I tried to turn the key over to do a compression test on it and got absolutely nothing out of it. Just a click that is it.. No fly wheel turning nothing. Any help would be appreciated.. :p

Don't know what you talking about extending?>. My transom on my o/b searay was 1.5 thick and thats what im rebuilding it to. you would have to add a splash well and maybe cut down the transom for the motor to hang(not sure o that) others will chime in with more experience. But good luck post lots of pics.:)

You can look at my restore to see how Bayliner built the '90s outboard models with the splashwell. Mine is a 1700 with 50 hp rating. On mine the stepped portion of the transom was composed of peice of 1/2" ply laminated to a peice of 5/8" ply for a total thickness of 1 3/4" with the glue/resin between the lamination. I'd guess you'd want about to double that since mine is only rated for 50hp, but i'm no expert. Also, it sounds like yours will be a full length transom so maynot need as much thickness as my stepped version. Also, take note that my stepped transom was tied into the stringers for support.

Ya Kenny that is the same boat as I have.. any pics of what it look like know?.. Plus can you give me the total length from the very bottom of the boat to the top of the transom where the motor mounts on? Plus is there any holes in the splash well and far does the splash well extend into the boat? Just so I can get some idea's of what it should maybe look like?

The outboard transoms I've worked with were 2 sheets of 3/4" ply sandwiched together.

My boats in pieces right now. I'm doing a total transom, deck, stringer rebuild. I'll try to snap some pictures of the top cap by the splash well tonight. Transom height is 20". I'll have to measure the splashwell.
