Travelling from Brewerton to Oswego

I have just purchased a 36 Carver in Brewerton and I plan to bring her here to the 1000 Island next week. I've never been on the Erie Canal and would appreciate any tips you might have about traversing the locks or the navigation markers.
I presume that from Brewerton to Oswego would be going down river, green on starboard, red on port.

I would really appreciate any advice.

I have not been on that part of the river, but live on the section west of the three river junction. I might be able to help a little. From Brewerton to the lake you will have around 4 or 5 locks. Most are in the secrion between fulton and oswego. Bring gloves to handle the ropes in the locks. You will be traveling down river.
