Never had an electric motor before. Bought the subject one based on advertising. Just got to try it out yesterday.

Its on a 14' Starcraft Seafarer FLSS - total weight with me in the 800 pound ballpark. At 25% it pushes the boat 0.7 mph and at 100% 2.3 mph.

That's perfect for what I want it for. Does that sound about right?

My main question, though, is how deep should the motor be dropped in the water? Should the prop go below the bottom of the boat? Can I raise it up so the prop shaft is even with the hull?

I'm not looking for max sped or anything, just trying to obtain the most efficiency.

As an aside, from reading some posts on here I was concerned that the motor may be a bit noisy. To my surprise I can't even hear it! But then again I have nothing to compare it to.

The prop doesn't care nor does it make any difference. It must be fully submerged however. If you have the motor too high the prop will ventilate in rough water and it will also be too close to the boat so the thrust if working against you as it hits the boat.
