Treated lumber trailer bunks?

After seeing where many advised against using treated lumber for bunk boards for pontoon boats and then a few saying they have used treated lumber with no bad side effects. I decided to try to find out how some can use treated lumber with no apparent damage to their aluminum pontoons. Is it the type of wood preservative that has less copper content to cause less electrolysis? Some boats might be spending less time on the trailer and therefore less wet contact time or some type of material that is insulating the copper from the aluminum better than others? I am starting to wonder how some building supply stores can advertise their treated lumber as aluminum compatible when building contractors have long discussed having problems with these types of treated lumber against certain metals and also having to use special fasteners that last longer than others.

Treated lumber is corrosive, that is reason enough not to use it. As far as longevity there is not enough difference to make it worthwhile.

i seen first hand. on a school i was working on, im a construction worker, they had put an aluminum parapet wall cap on the roof over treated lumber. and it had been on only a few months. the carpenters tearing it off showed us the after effects since we were working cloe by and were courious as to why they were removing new cap. the lumber had eaten away at the inside of the cap to beer can thin and was producing holes as well.

i did use treated on my floor when i restored it this spring but it got two thick coats of exterior acrylic paint and i used roofing rubber strips as a barrier between wood alum contact as well.

I see where the old CCA- arsenic type and the ACQ which most lumber is treated with are the worst. The MCA is kind of questionable maybe not as bad and Home Depot claims you don't need any special fasteners for it-I found a video from home depot that claims they have a water proofing treatment that they use in some of the lumber now in the place of the copper azole. Maybe I will use untreated lumber and treat it with waterproofing myself.

Thanks for all of the responses. I have decided to go with the weathershield if I can make sure it doesn't contain any copper or other metals. It is supposed to be a waterproofing that is pressure treated in. I know what you are talking about-halfmoa- about some things that experts warn you about. Still I believe the warnings about using lumber that has been treated with copper can damage the aluminum in the pontoons. At least it would be my luck or-lack of luck- that it would. When I looked up the specs. on the copper treated lumber it said they weren't waterproof anyway.

I ask at Home Depot today what their weathershield treatment contained and the lumber guy showed me that it is treated with the copper azole so I got the untreated 2x6x14s for the bunk wood and I will water proof it myself. I won't have to worry about the glue not sticking or any kind of reaction to what ever fasteners I use now anyway. I can see where this job is going to be a lot more time consuming than I thought it was going to be. I just thought I would pass along that the weathershield is copper treated lumber before it is water proofed so that others might not think like I did that it was just water proofed.
