Tree hugging boaters?

As a newbie I don't wish to offend. Plenty of time for that. But some of these posts seem to be filled with Birkenstock wearing, granola eating, tree hugging save a snail darter for the illegal immigrant types.

Question. If you're a boater, does your excessive and wasteful use of dinosaur remains bother you or are you sailing in the old fashioned method, without a kicker?

I won't even ask if you’re trailering with an SUV or 3500 dually... How Gauche!

Re: Tree hugging boaters?

Welcome to the world of liberal hypocracy, Gabby. Theirs is a world of do as I say, not as I do.

It really does not matter what they do, their ticket to Liberal Heaven gets punched when they 'think' the right things, not do them.

..and hey! Back off the Birkenstock business. I wear them, nearly exclusively, 8 months out of the year. And no, they are not Vegan Birkenstocks.8)

Also remember that the 'environment' is not their only ticket to Liberal heaven. It also includes whatever vice that they can garner the most taxes from, to further their agenda.

Common, guys. Haven't ya heard about "carbon offsets" ?
If you're a wealthy liberal like kerry f'rinstance, you can just buy them from your buddy algore, and probably at a cheaper rate than those followers of the peta van who generally post here... but we all love boating enough to pay what we think we must.
And if not, there are kayaks and windbaggers to be enjoyed.

On this board someone will always get offended no matter what is said, the good thing is, everyone seems to get over with the exception of the infinitesimal minded few.
Who gives a crap, speak your mind, i do.;)

Re: Tree hugging boaters?

Uh, Sir! Yes Sir! Actually, I also kayak any water with a ripple and as such, have Teva's, which are part of the proscribed uniform among water rats. So I apologize for the birkenstock remark. but NOTHING else.

I'm used to the "Hip"-O-Crits. After 22 years as a nomad I am settled in a two college town. The local rag is ridiculous. I actually took the time to count, and track, on excel, for one month, the number of left vs. right op eds, letters to the editor and political cartoons. 6-1 ration L to R. Funny thing is that the state voter records list the county as 60% dem to 35% rep and 5% unkown. The MSA is about 55 / 45 D to R. The 78 county area the paper is delivered to is roughly 51%D /49%R according to research.

The papers has lost readers in droves in the last few years and is in trouble, and yet, they cater to the liberal left with a 6 to 1 ratio which doesnt' reflect the readeship of their domain.

I am by no means E.F. Hutton, but I know enough about bidness to know that isn't a smart route to success.

Oh well, if they can't report the news, the least they can do is make it up.

Vlad, you're obviously a man of extreme intelligence.

I find it comical that people can get upset and hold grudges at others for speaking their mind. Hey, we may not always agree, but as someone said last night while I was enjoying the barbs, we're all boaters. At least we have THAT little piece of insanity in common.

I have heard good things about Lexington. I also heard it is almost impossible to be married in that town. 8)

It is impossible to be a "practicing" liberal. You would have to live in a cave, wear nothing - but carry a condom, and eat only "approved" vegan diets. Smoking cigs is illegal but pot is freedom... Impossible to make heads or tails of what is todays liberals want out of you. Your weekends will be spent supporting our troops by spitting on them. :| You can't smoke a cig on the steps of the supreme court, but you can burn an American Flag.

My epiphany came during the Clinton Administration when someone like Lanny Davis would come on nightline and say "I am not here to defend the indefensible", and then, with his very next breath begin defending it. Honesty meant nothing, political power over everything.

Speaking one's mind is okay, so long as it does not include personal insults or foul language, Gabby.

Gofrit.

Re: Tree hugging boaters?

I was referring to the "someone will always get insulted" comment. Kiss a** indeed.

Mr Left coast, thanks for the folly of youth comment. After spending all day in the yard working I don't feel so young this evening.

Re: Lexington, it is in fact a beautiful area. I grew up in Southern Indiana near Louisville, but spent 22 years in uniform traveling the world. When I retired I had an interview in Louisville with the Feds and one here as a DoD contractor. The wife, who is from Kansas, and loves horses, set me straight as to which job I was going to accept.

I must say, it is beautiful country. I've seen prettier, but I am now looking to make a home here, not own a house. This will work.

Re: Tree hugging boaters?

I've not found the insanity in being a boater yet, and I like trees.

What other hobby consumes so much time, work, money and effort? Mind you it is worth it, but it is time consuming. If I didn't have a boat I could probably drive a Bentley.

hence, the insanity comment. Of couse it was made in jest. Calm thyself, as is most of what I say. Go forth and sin no more my son.

Re: Tree hugging boaters?

Boats have never been a problem and trees are an essential commodity to all earthly lifeforms, the problem lays with the inconsiderate humans who consider themselves as an overly self important authority over all else.

I could agree, but then I might be branded an A** ki**er again.

I'm actually a nature lover and enjoy nothing more than being outside, in the woods, with the dogs, hiking etc.

Tree hugger was a cheap shot at the left.

Don't let the noisey feline get to ya, actually he's not a bad lot, mischevious maybe, though he often finds my humor a bit confusing i can't blame him for that, he's a Qool cat.d:)
Ya know! According to Columbus's theory, perhaps it could be said that if one keeps on going right they may end up in bed with the left. I've often heard that it takes two to tango.;)

Well thanks Vlad. I was actually just poking at the Vladster at your expense Gaby and ribbing you a little when given an easy opportunity. You sound like a great Cat your ownself and I think you'll definitely like it here . . .

May be a topic for a different thread, but I totally agree with that statement. Spot on, go it in one, well done, etc. etc. etc. ;)

If it weren't for those dreaded Treehuggers, Lake Erie would still be catching fire and they'd be chewing the air in Los Angeles ;)
