This is a prime example on what you should never go after when powering a heavy boat with a portable under powered motor. Scenario :

Underpowered Yam 25 HP Motor.jpg

2.0 K Kg wooden boat, XL shaft powered with a 2 strokes Yam 25 HP motor. The moron as seen in pic it's undergoing its third in a row powerhead replacement, due to running wot with excessive prop aeration, badly trimmed motor and poor motor cooling as the motor sits way high than should be for top prop thrust and spot on motor refrigeration.

Lugging-Over Revving a Motor.JPG

Lugging extremely any motor could end in seeing pistons and their rods skyrocketing out the cowl due to excessive heat build ups specially on rods and general piston stress, but such morons never learns not even after telling what to do to correct that flaw and avoid going any time soon for the forth powerhead replacement. LOL!! Correct boating it's more of a science than just sitting any motor on transom to power any boat and voilá.....

Agree, but did anyone think about maybe cutting the mount a bit lower to lower the leg more into the water?

Definitely needs an urgent transom height modification. To start with there's a big suspended o'ring right in middle of both motor clamps (X) which needs to be removed if plan going for a neat middle transom shave.

Transom Modification.JPG

The max clearance between pan (a) and upper swivel bracket (b) is 2", so the transom will need to be shaved max 2" downward, if shaved more the front portion of the pan will locked itself when turned sideways when the lower swivel bracket rests flat on shaved transom. Right now the motor over revs highly when lightly loaded, lugs exponentially when over load. For me this is entirely a visual exercise, have fun seeing such out of this world matches. Don't plan chasing no one to teach how boats and motors should be correctly installed to take the max out of both, to each their own unique motor installation...

Nothing is under powered if you have the engine rpm / prop selection so that it runs at or near max spec rpm. It just takes you longer to get there but won't hurt the motor.

Do you mean "shade tree"?

We know about that tech issue which all boaters should go for. But with such underpowered 25 motor there's a huge water performance difference moving at slow pace as of now and at a fast displacement speed if correctly propped and motor is spot on transom height matched...

Down here can't choose any other prop option aside from the factory delivered with, will need to buy one as an extra cost, besides the dealer doesn't care at all which aplication will be powering your newly acquired motor as to recommend any other prop option.

Same up here. Dealers with past experience and good knowledge are few and far between.

Online vendors (like here) sell the entire selection of props, so getting the right one isn't an issue. If you do it right away the factory prop can be sold on EBay, thus minimizing the extra cost factor.
