Hey I married a Thai and I cant speak the lingo.<br /><br />Here is a tip, they spell it wrong in the book.<br /><br />In thai to english, the word for foreigner is spelled "farang"<br /><br />BUT....<br /><br />It is pronounced "fall"(as in falling down) - "long" (as in long distance).<br /><br />Its the old r / l asian swicheroo.<br /><br />There are some websites that give an audio for the word.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Ken

I married a filipina and I too havent figured out their language. I know very few bits and pieces but I know their pernunciations are much alike speaking spanish. Their p's and f's do the switcheroo from time to time.

I married a cambodean. They never pronounce the "s" anytime it's at the end of a word.<br /> But my wife fully apreciates the battle to keep guns legal in America. She saw some things when she was 12 that no 12 year old should ever have to see.

yeah it very hard for an Asian person to understand someone without an Asian accent trying to say something in an Asian language. It the way you curl the tounge or something that make the same letter sound different.

I spent time in Japan as a kid. When I went back as a sailor, one of my buddies needed to make a head call(bathroom). None of us could remember the correct word. Being just 'slightly' inebriated, I used the slang word and got some really shocked looks from the locals.

Crab Bait - I think you were victim of the Korean translators' plot to keep all foreigners away from their girls. What you said probably meant "you are butt ugly" or something... :D

Better luck next time Crab :D A better bet might be to find a Korean person who will tell you how to pronounce it. I think it's all in the pronounciation. She'll be impressed when you get it right - and besides, she won't forget you now (not with 8 heads!) :D

Crabby,<br /><br />The Asians enunciate really weird. Like in Thai and Chinese there MANY words/phrases that sound exactly the same to us, but very subtle changes in pitch and enunciation change the whole dang meaning. It has been my experience that Asians will teach you to say what ever you want in their native tongue. Our local university has students that earn extra money teaching their language, so try getting the phrase from a person that speaks Korean. And for God's sake find out what you really said to her in case an apology is in order. BTW, I love Kim Chi(sp?).

Keep tryin Crabby, you're bound to get it right, or close at least once.<br /><br />Ask another Korean from the same area she's from. Then practice it with them for the right inflection.<br /><br />I think its really sweet of you to do this and so should she. ;) :) <br /><br />Good luck!
