The trigger wire to my cyl #4 power pack rotted
away. Do I have to pull flywheel to replace it?
How big a job?

Well picked up Clams.. They went to coil pack in 1979 me thinks...
Provide us your S/N and we can find the year, but if you find that it does have the coilpack ignition and it is the trigger wire, the answer is that as long as there is a bit of servicable wire coming out of the flywheel, both for stator and trigger, you can solder or crip a similar gauge Auto or marine wire to it. I did a few on my 1980 50hp with no problems. Just re-insulate the loom and it will run fine.
Check my pretty green one that replaced the corroded white wire. :D

The 80 hp ran from 1969 to 1972 (with distributor). Was then uprated to 85 hp from 1973 to 1977 (also with distributor). Then back to 80 hp but with distributorless ignition from 1978 to 1983. From 1983 to 1988 it was run as a 75hp.

The trigger wire seems to work OK. get voltage to all places for #4 but still no spark at plug?
Engine runs same with plug wire on or off. My voltmeter only goes to 2000. how much is coming out of coil? Have continuity on plug wire. Thanks
