Hi guys I have a 85 Tempest with a Merc 228. When I adjust the trim the engine stumbles while I'm holding the switch? Anyone else ever have this happen and did you ever find out what caused it?

Thanks

just guessing and I am not an expert, but could be two things. One you are loosing too much voltage when trimming causing the engine to starve for spark. Or two trimming the motor maybe be affecting the shift cable or the electric shift if you have that causing the engine to stumble thinking it is going to come out of gear.

I think Freddy has hit it with the voltage problem, common cause is bad connections, check and CLEAN and tighten all battery cable connections at both ends, your likely losing power when you need it the most.
