Where can I get a Trim and tilt sending unit for a 90 horse Evinrude, 1988 year??? I can do without it BUT I like to read my gauge. This is the second one that went bad. Got last one from a junk boat.

shop2.evinrude.com, and you'll find it in the midsection parts list. It is OMC part # 0583358. Google that with and without the leading 0, and ebay it with and without and you'll find plenty of them.
I've found them on ebay. Most any Johnson/Evinrude sender will work even if it's a different part number than yours (as long as it's physically the same). The main differences are some have ground wires and some don't, the ground wire isn't needed.

Rule number1, never assume anything when people post things on the forum, especially when the OP is unsure of the year of the motor to start with. I also know from personal experience in this endeavor that some of the sending units are different depending on the gauges used.
I would much rather inform people of that instead of leading them down the path of more possible headaches.

Basically the exact same sender was used for many many years, so that's a pretty safe assumption. As far as differences based on the gauge used, NOT for JohnnyRudes. The difference is between Mercs and JohnyRudes, one of them increases in resistance with increasing trim, the other decreases in resistance with increasing trim. You can't use a Merc gauge with a Johnson sending unit, and you can't use a Johnson gauge with a Merc sending unit. Since the OP's guage worked once upon a time we know that he's got a gauge which is compatable with a Johnson sending unit.
All Evinrude/Johnson units are in principle the same, only difference is the arm going to the swivel bracket. If you get a unit with different arm, just switch with the one from your old unit.
