trim control switch question

I took the handle apart last night and found the brown wire broken at the connector. :(

I had a little trouble with the Seloc schematic. Is the brown wire supposed to be hot with the key on? The powerhead is off right now so the harness connector is not plugged in - is this the reason there's no voltage at the brown wire?

The purple wire is looking a bit beat up too - are replacement connectors available?

This is for a 1980 Mariner L6 90hp, Type A trim system, late model solenoids, Quicksilver controls, toggle trim/pushbutton trailer swithes. PTT works if I short the solenoids, but not with the controls.

Thanks in advance!

Re: trim control switch question

i rewired mine to a dash switch, a couple of years ago. 3 postion switch up off down. i guess you would have to have button to engage the trailer.

That's a neat idea, I'll keep it in mind! The switch in the handle seems to work, I just ran a patch from the battery to the brown wire and the switches worked.

If I can't get that wire in the handle repaired properly, I'll try your idea out. There's not much room in there for a repair, hoping to find some of those little pin connectors to crimp on and solder.

If worst case attempt radio shack or an electronic store but make sure you get a crp corrosion inhibitor and spray it or maybe cover terminal in wax i heard that one time never tried it though! good luck
