Trim up and trim down is the normal operating range of movement for your drive with the engine running.

Trailer mode will raise the drive even higher than the normal operating range so you can safely tow the boat on a trailer without scraping the drive on ground.

DO NOT run your engine with the drive up high in the trailer mode area. That will make your U joints bind up from running at high angles and wear them out faster. Once you get your boat back on it's trailer, shut down the engine and then use the trailer button to raise the drive all the way up.

Very good... I have just purchased this boat. Its my first inboard, so its all been learning... I have gotten it running, and i had a pretty good vibration ....Having even less knowledge then I do now , I pulled the drive, and the noise /vibration was gone. What i didnt take into account is that the trim was non functional and trimmed up... I have convinced myself that was the cause..I am going to replace the lower shift cable before i reinstall the drive. I have done some research on the cable "conversion" to install a alpha cable into my mc-1.. Thats the route I was going to take, but as i was degreasing the area of the bellhousing where the cable comes through I found what looks like the nut that I have seen on the videos , visible from the "outside" of the bellhousing. So I believe, but have yet to confirm, that the conversion has been done. Is a nut visible on the original mc-1 cable???
The boat is at my shop where i can only mess with when Im slow. I have to rebuild the trailer to bring it home...So any hints or help, secrets or tricks, that anyone can come up with any of this that Im facing would be great...

On the newer style cable the nut is on the rear side of the housing.
It uses a 9/16" deep socket.

When you removed the drive did you have the gearshift in forward.

The noise you heard could also be worn ujoints or a worn gimbal bearing.
If the history is unknown you should replace the bellow while in there and maybe the water hose.
