Trim Cylinder question

I have an Alpha 1 drive and one of my trim cylinders is leaking. I am troubleshooting to see if it is the line or the cylinder that is leaking. My question is, when putting the line on the cylinder, do you use anything on the threads of the line to make a perfect seal?

Also, I am leaning toward just replacing the cylinder and the number on the port cylinder that is leaking is 98703. When I search on Ebay (can't afford a brand new one) for a replacement, I see numbers like 98703a and 98703-1. Will these cylinders replace the one I have?

Re: Trim Cylinder question

Ayuh,... The fittings are an inverted flare,... Self- Sealing...

There are 2 basic trim rams used on the pre-alphas,+ alphas...
The 1" cylinders are very round looking,+ the gland nut is external, you use channel locks to take the cylinders appart...
The 1, 1/4" cylinders are more squareish looking,+ have an internal gland nut, you need a spanner wrench to disassemble 'em...

In other words, if the pictures look like your's,... They're the same...
