1995 Wellcraft Eclipse 236, 5.7 Merc, Alpha 1 Gen II....the tilt up limit switch works fine, but, when trimming down, I get no automatic stoppage in the full in position, and have to go by the change of the sound in the trim motor. Is this an indication the switch is shot and how involved is the replacement?

There is no down limit switch. When you get the drive down and the pump motor loads up, you're down.

Ayuh,... That's the way it's Supposed to work....

As Don said, there is No limit switch for the down stroke...
It just unloads the pump, changin' it's tune...

Agreed with above. Trim down is limited by the trim ram length, so it would be difficult to run at extreme driveshaft angles due to excessive down trim. If you absolutely need a visual confirmation of you proximity to the trim limits, you can get a trim guage if you don't already have one.

Thanks everyone. The trim gauge doesn't appear to be as accurate as I would like. I have been going by the "change in tune" but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The trim sender is adjustable so it reads accurately on the gauge.... Page 4A-12 of the service manual...
