Morning all,
I just got my new trim motor in and am ready to install it on the trim assembly that is off the boat already. 2 questions if I may please.
1. The service manual says to use OMC trim/tilt fluid with SOME power steering fluid. Today is July 5th and no marine stores around here are open. The manual also says I can use Dextron II also. Wally world and auto parts stores are open though. I cannot find Dextron II only Dextron III. The back of the Dextron III bottle says it is ok to use in place of Dextron II. My cylinders do not leak and I do not want to harm the seals by using the wrong fluid. Can I use the Dextron III? Why does the book say OMC trim fluid with SOME power steering fluid? What is "SOME" and why?
2. I have read here on how to bleed the system while installed on the boat. Can I just fill the reservoir while it is on my bench through the filler cap and cycle the tilt rod up and down and bleed most of the air that way? I am confused as to when to close the manual valve and when to leave it open for bleeding though.
Thanks all.
Sid
