trim gauge backwards

i have 98 xs cobra volvo penta outdrive, my trim gauge operates backwards, i switched the wires still have the same problem!:confused:

perhaps the positive (purple) and the ground (black) wires are on the wrong posts on the back of the guage

What he said. check the connections on the back of the gauge. If they're right, try reversing them and see if it works.
