Trim Gauge issue

Trim gauge was not working (pegged to all the way up). Replaced trim sending unit, tested gauge and it was working properly (Tested for just a couple minutes in the driveway) Next time i went out to mess with boat realized the gauge was not working again, pegged to up. I have checked all connections, replaced connection couplers on the wiring and still cannot find what is causing gauge to not work. Trim gauge is about a 2 year old Faria.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Re: Trim Gauge issue

Sounds af if you have an intermittent problem & the sending unit may not have been the only issue.

The trim gauge will stay high unless current runs through it. It will read low when the wires to and through the trim sender provide a path to ground and 12 volts is present on the gauge input.

So I suggest the following checks;

Find the wire that goes to the trim switch from the gauge (Make sure you have the correct wire)& ground it momentariliy where it connects in the engine compartment. What happens?
-- If the gauge needle stays high; the problem has got to be upstream towards the gauge, verify 12 volts is present ( DVM required ) at the gauge and recheck the connections. If you have 12 volts and no gauge needle movement ground the output to the trim swtch AT THE GAUGE. If you still have no needle movement it is most likley the gauge )
-- If it the gauge needle goes low that proves you have 12 volts at the gauge and a working gauge. Check your trim sender adjustment, or connections. It may be very helpful to use a dvm & check the resistance of this circuit.

Let us know how this goes.
