Trim gauge issues

I have a 1997 Larson with a cobra SX outdrive.
Recently the trim gauge is acting crazy. It works one minute then the next it is jumping from full up position to full down the at times it works fine the after a bit of jumping up and down it will peg all the way up.
I have moved every wire I can find and I can't make it happen by shaking, wiggling or pulling on wires at the back of the gauge or back by the engine it near the throttle controls. Is it most likely the trim position sensor or what. I am kinda stumped here. Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Trim gauge issues

I have the same issue. From what I understand the sensor is similar to a rheostadt and as the trim is adjusted the resistance changes which alters the voltage. I have heard that you can clean and readjust the sensor (I have yet to try) and I have heard they they cannot be adjusted and need to be replaced. If it has to be replaced, you might as well try cleaning it first. There is another post in the forums where someone cleaned it but I cannot find it since the first time.
