Trim Gauge Not Working

I have a 115 merc outboard with a power trim and the gauge on the dash is not working. I have checked the power to it and it is getting a full 12v so I don't think it is the gauge. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking for to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Dumb question: Do you have a trim sender on that motor? A lot of the earlier Mercs did not. You might look up the parts list and see if it lists one for that year Merc. if it does have a sender, test it with an ohmmeter.

Re: Trim Gauge Not Working

I looked at the service manual for my engine and all it says is if the trim ram is not installed properly, "the trim sender (if installed) will not operate". I went on the Crowley Marine site and looked for one on the parts list and I couldn't find one.
The boat is new to me and I am wondering why there would be a trim gauge if there is no trim sender? Where would I look to try and find one on my motor? There is a brown/white wire that goes to the gauge and I followed that back to the motor and it plugs into an adaptor and then I loose the trail.

On mine you have to take the bottom cowling off to get at the sender.
