Trim Gauge Sticking

My 2006 Q6 SF is new to me this year. I noticed that the trim gauge does not always seem to be in sync with the lower unit.

If I bottom out the lower unit, the gauge will suddenly right itself, but I cannot always count on the gauge to indicate my true position.

Anyone else experience this? Is there a remedy?

Re: Trim Gauge Sticking

The place to start is to turn on your ignition switch. If your drive has any chance to hit the ground when in full down , find a piece of plywood to put under it. First leave ignition on, on the right, faceing the back of the boat, on the drive, is a round switch that adjust the gauge. There will be two screws at the outer part and 4 smaller screws at the inner part.. First have your drive in the full up position, loosen the two outer screws, you will need a helper to watch the gauge, again the gauge will not work with the ignition switch off.You will want the gauge on the full up slash mark when done. After the two screws are loose and your help is watching the gauge and drive full up, if the hand on the gauge is to the right of the up mark, turn the switch clockwise slowly untill it is on the up mark , not the word up,if the hand is to the left of the up mark, turn the switch counter clockwise, hold the switch in place while you tighten the screws. Now check the gauge by running the drive up and down. The switch is very sensitive so turn very slowly

Now check the gauge by running the drive up and down. The switch is very sensitive so turn very slowly. When using the gauge as a refference the true up is what matters . As you watch the drive go up and down the drive actually goes beyond the straight down position which will cause the gauge to act this way that is why you set in the up position, this is normal. in the water when the gauge reaches the down mark ,let off the switch.
