Trim Gauge

I have a Yamaha 115 4Stroke and have noticed on my last few outings that when I trim down my motor all the way, that the trim gauge needle will no longer go to the bottom trim line but only to the top mark on the gauge and won't go any lower (indicating that the motor is trimmed down all the way). The power trim is working fine and the engine is trimmed down.

What should I be looking for in order to try to correct this. I am not an outboard mechanic.

Thanks for your help,
Glen

Re: Trim Gauge

Look for a small sensor on or near the engine mounting bracket. I'm not that familiar with Yam's but most have an arm that sweeps up and down with the engine.

If you find it, try moving the arm up and down with the key on. Does the needle move with your movement of the arm?

Re: Trim Gauge

DWJ,

Thanks for the help, I finally got a chance to look. It took a while but I did find a small hidden little arm under the motor that looked like it is supposed to hit a small arm on a plastic clamp to raise the arm. I discovered that the plastic "trim cam sender" (finally found a diagram online explaining the part) was cracked and broken. We don't have too many boat shops here in the NC mountains but there are a couple and I will try to find the part there.

Thanks for your help,
Glen
