trim guage adjustment

I recently put in a new trim gauge on a Ranger 374V with a Johnson 150 Faststrike where should the needle be when running WOT when I try to run at 5500rpm's the needle is at the very top of the gauge, when trimmed down she is at the bottom line is this normal? :confused:

To check the gauge sender adjustment, have what is normally called the reverse lock rod inserted in the center hole of the transom brackets, then lower the engine until the engine touches that rod.<br /><br />The gauge should be centered at that point. If not, raise the engine and adjust the sender slightly as needed, repeating as needed until the gauge centers.
