Last year I had an issue with my trim guage on the console. The problem started when I had a broken wire to one of the terminals on the starboard side which rendered the guage as inoperable. The port side sender was fine. I decided to pull of the starboard side, clean it, re-solder the wire in place, and then re-install it. The first time out on the water I could lower the outdrive through my switch and it showed bottom on the guage. When I started underway and went to trim up, the outdrive trimmed up as it should, but the guage didn't move. When I took it out of the water and did it in my driveway, I used the "trailer" button to trim up and the guage worked fine. Has anyone ever noticed a major difference in their guage readings while underway and trimming up? At that point I have been using the counting to 3-5 seconds when trimming up as a stopping point. I used the workshop manual to adjust the trim sender first from the default notch and then the limit sender from the default notch. I am wondering if I could have a bad trim sender (garage fixed) they may be causing the issue completely before I replace it with new senders.
1. Form my understanding, pull the senders, line up the notches, lower the drive, do the trim sender first and turn the sender to match guage reading of bottom (not below the line, but ON the line).
2. From my understanding, lower the drive, do the limit sender and turn to hit roughly 20" in extension from ram center to ram center.
Please correct me if I am wrong. I am doing new sensors this weekend.
