trim Guage

How do I test a trim guage? I have 40 hp honda ob. Trim / tilt works file guage doesnt anymore.

Find the wires coming from the trim gauge. One goes to ground and one goes to the gauge. Ground both of them and see if the gauge pegs. If the gauge pegs then it's the sender

So your saying to just jump both connections on the gauge, grounding both and the gauge moves to the peg (all the way up?) it is the sender. Correct? I take it the key would need to be accessory mode.

NO, No, No
I don't know what kind of setup you have so I sent you to the sender which is on the drive. If you have a Merc setup, go to the gauge there will be Purple, Black and Brown/White wire. Ground the Brn/Wht wire and the gauge should peg with the ignition on. If you have another system it will work the same but unknown (unless you tell us) what the color wires are

It's a Honda setup. I will get the colors tomorrow. Thanks allot for the help.
This is what I have on file
Honda wiring color code:



BLACK = Ground
BLACK/White = 12-volt power, Engine Start
BLACK/Red = Engine Stop
BLACK/Green = Stator, Ignition Coil
WHITE/Black = Ignition Switched Power
GRAY = Tachometer, Battery Charging
BROWN = Choke
RED = Temperature warning
Lt. GREEN = Trim UP
Lt. BLUE = Trim DOWN
BLUE = Pulse Coil 1
BLUE/Yellow = Pulse Coil 2
BLUE/Green = Pulse Coil 3, 4
