trim indicator

Hi,<br />I have a 93 maxum 27 scr/ i/o. I put in water today for first time this summmer. All is well except trim indicator reads up {pegged} even though trim is all way down. The indicator gauge also flucuated will under power. I can live without the gauge working but any suggestions? Something simple?<br />thanks in advance,<br />djm

Disconnect the 2 wire connectors coming from the outdrive sending unit. These are probably back by the engine. Measure resistance between the 2 wires going to the sending unit. I think it should be between about 5 and 160 ohms, if it is like my mercruiser. Raise and lower outdrive and see if resistance changes smoothly. If so, wiring to guage is bad or guage itself is bad.
