Trim Issue

I have a 75 hp Johnson with trim thats making a cracking noise every time i raise the trim, and the other issue is that when i try to lower the trim down i have to manually do it because it will stay half way down. I noticed that that the noise comes from the Trim Rod. I have already filled the reservoir with fluid. Do i have a bad motor? any help will be appreciated.
