I have a 2001 Optimax 150 whose trim is sounding terrible when lowering the motor. The sound is normal when trimming up. I've ordered a replacement trim motor and hope that cures the problem. I've had the boat since new and this motor has been mounted in this position since purchase. While examining the trim mechanism I noticed that the lower portion of the lower piston guide assemblies were slightly below water level. Should these not be above water level? Has the motor been mounted too low since purchase? Seems to me that in this position the threat of water penetration would be great in the piston assemblies. The boat sits in the water year round in a slip not on a lift evident by the corrosion in the photo. Any help with that trim noise would be appreciated too. Thanks!
