Have a boat that is kept in freshwater, it has had some corrosion issues which I have narrowed down to broken continuity straps, old/decayed anodes, and bottom paint right up to the gimbal housings. I have fixed these issues, new magnesium anodes, and refinished the drives. The last this on my list as a "must do" before launching is the trim ram manifolds which seem to have been a victim to the things noted above. Both are corroded to the point of having most of the hose threads exposed. One has a leak, and I'm sure the other won't last the season.

I purchased and received two used manifolds in excellent shape. My questions are:

What type of gasket material to make the new gaskets out of? Paper? Cork? Sealant? Both?

And second, when adding anodes to replace block off plates, do I need longer bolts, and do I need to use a gasket on the anode? I know the block off plates have them.

I believe the original is a thin cork, but as this is a VITAL component for keeping water out of the boat (should that gasket fail or leak you can send the boat to the bottom of the lake very quickly) I would not be making my own, but buying genuine.

What 'block off plates' are you referring to?

The plate covers the center hole that would usually have the Mercathode wires run through. Of my two replacement manifolds, one has an open center hole, the other has a rubber plug. I need to figure the recommended way to mount the anodes on these. Since the boat never had one, I have nothing to go off of.

I have to ask what was your procedure with the gaskets and any type of sealant or adhesive for the gaskets

I just went through this very same issue and posted about it. My boat blew a line off inside the boat and I figured out it was the manifold. I replaced the manifold and purchased a replacement anode assembly as well. The OEM mercruiser part included the seal. The manifold I purchased had a block-off plate included with paper gasket and bolts.

Do I need to remove the trim manifold to install the magnesium anode because my trim manifold is fine however I’m only going to be in the water for two months this year and I need to install the magnesium anode for the trim manifold and I’m unsure of how to install the metal plateThat matches the small gasketAnd if I should use a sealer or sealant

I apologize, the part I replaced was the cathode, not the anode. Anodes are your zincs, the part under the trim manifold is the "Mercathode".

My cathode wires broke and at this time I need to get in the water ASAP that’s why I chose to go with the magnesium anode because I do not want to waste more time with these wires and spending $267 and a new cathode just unsure of sealant or adhesive and to the bottom of the trim manifold I have no instructions or direction and I have tried and looked everywhere

This Amazon link is just for the part detail, NOT an endorsement of a product. It shows the gasket and plate I was referring to.

That was exactly what I was looking for I’m not sure why I have not seen that or found that set up or description anywhere and I’m going to have to install the magnesium anode and I will have to probably use longer bolts I would assume and do you believe I should use any type of gasket sealer????

This is what I used.
That is pretty much what I have identical and the only other part that I have is obviously the anode along with the rubber plug which I am going to try to stuff in the hole which is from the wires that go to the The cathode or the blue box mounted to the engine and I am going to disconnect all of those wires from their blue box
Do you feel or think I should use any adhesive or gasket sealant???

Dude, pull off the cathode and "rubber plug", install the block off plate and gasket with bolts. DONE. No sealer unless the mounting surface is corroded then YES, sealer.
