The control for the motor that raises and lowers the
lower unit on my 1999 crownline 5 liter alpha drive is on the throttle / gear shift. There are two buttons, one is
the "trailer button" that raises the lower alll the way up for me to trailer the boat. The other button will either raise or lower the lower unit while in the water. The trailer button works fine. When I push the other button
that will lower the unit I keep hearing a clicking noise in the motor / pump itself in the engine well. If I keep fiddling with the button to lower the unit it will then all
of the sudden work fine and the unit will lower. The boat
was bought used last year. I do not know of any history
of prior problems. Any suggestions as to why the button to lower the unit occasionally causes the clicking nosie but will all of the sudden begin working okay? The trailer button never gives the clicking noise when raising the unit in order to put the boat on the trailer.

thanks,

Re: trim motor

Welcome to iboats! :)
My guess is that the button is going bad, but I would check the wiring connections for corrosion/loosenes before I replaced it......
Checking it with an ohm meter might shed some light on the the switches condition as well.....JK
