Early model MC1 or Alpha 1 both hose's on the same end of ram, early mod pump, two solenoids, drive intermitently stops about 2/3 rd's of the way down a quick squirt on the throtle brings it down.I have bled the system as per the manual no differance,
motor does not stop or pause, the rams both seem free.
Any thoughts??

Howdy,

The trim system is largely self "bleeding". You will get a little foam as it purges out the air and subsequently will have to add a little liquid as it does.

If the trim cyls are "sticking", it's possible that there's some internal corrosion causing it.

Re: Trim Problem

Hope it's not the check valves in the valve body. That's an NLA part. One thing you can try is draining the pump, and removing the valve assembly from the bottom of the tank. Clean the valve assembly with spray brake cleaner. You will be surprised how much gunk can build up in the bottom of the oil tank. Remove the dog bone shaped valve from the bottom of the valve body and clean all passages with brake cleaner. Re assemble with new o rings and gasket and fill with fresh oil. The o-ring and gasket kit is avalible for around $10 US funds. The cleaning and new oil may save you. If not, check ebay for a new/used valve body.

I forgot to say it has only done it on the trailer which is probably coincidental

Re: Trim Problem

Sounds like one or both rams are just starting to corrode and jam in the end cap(s). If you have someone stand on the drive when it happens then it should keep going down. If so, you have a tight ram.

Re: Trim Problem

Two replies mention corrosion does this mean replacing the rams or servicing them

Depending on the series of ram, just replacing the end cap.

Re: Trim Problem

In the early rams there is a 'rod bearing' at the top of the ram. If water has leaked passed the 'o' ring it may have started te bearing corroding. That's usually enough to make it tight. If you disconnect the rams from the drive and run the pump you'll see which ram is tight.. You then need to strip it and find out why.
