Pulled the rusty rotten bracket, the old mounting holes are shot and no way to get the old headless bolts out.

i plan to drill new holes and used stainless self tapping screws that are heavy duty - any issue with that method ?

thanks

Nope,...... Sounds like a solid plan,...... just seal the new screws to keep water out,.....

Thanks Bondo, I got some sikaflex for that.
the fluid was contaminated too with water so going to have to clean and flush the system.

any recommendations on that ?

Ayuh,...... What I do is disconnect the lines at the manifold, under the outdrive, 'n lift, 'n lower the drive, by hand a few times to purge the rams,....
Then hop into the boat, fill the tank with fresh oil, 'n cycle the pump up, 'n down, til clean oil is expelled into the catchcan,.....

After that, hook everything back up, refill the tank, 'n cycle it full up, 'n full down, 1/2 dozen times to bleed the air outa it,.....

Top off the tank again, 'n Go Boatin',......

Thanks Bondo, and what about the creamy fluid - would I need to flush with anything other than more fresh fluid ?

Creamy fluid seems to suggest water is getting into the system. Any idea where it's coming from? On mine it was as simple as loose connections between the trim lines and the hydraulic rams, but water in the system can indicate other problems, too.

I just got this vessel so no idea how it is getting in - the trim pump bracket was totally rotten - I dont think it can get in via the pump though ?

If the pump were submerged or regularly had water pouring over it, it suppose water could get in that way. Much more like, I think, would be seals on the rams or the connection points between the rams and the pump, especially those that live underwater.

I would probably start by purging the system of milky fluid (the procedure is in the manual; it's been long enough since I did it I don't remember the specifics). I had to purge it several times to completely get all the milky fluid from the rams and hoses.

Then, make sure all the connections are snug and see if the fluid stays clear.
