Trim pump help

I have a 84 formula 25pc. It has a 5.7 and alpha one outdrive. This past weekend the out drive would not come up. It would go all the way down no problem. I pulled the lines off at the pump and if I hit the down button it will spray a steady stream out. When I hit the up button the motor just runs but no fluid will come out of the pump. Is the pump bad? If not what am I doing wrong? Also, in looking for a new pump, whats the difference between the pump with a plastic resivoir and the one(like I have now) that doesn't have the external plastic resivoir? Thanks.

Ayuh,.... Is there oil in the pump,..??

I believe there might be a difference in the tubin' fittin' sizes, 'tween the pumps,...
If so, worse case is replace the hoses to the manifold,...

Yes pump is full according to the dip stick. Everything was working great then it quit going up.

What kind of oil goes in the resivoir?

I put mercruiser trim oil in it when I changed it back in march.
