Trim Pump Issues

On one of my drives, I can only get the drive to go up if I remove the "down" hose from the pump itself. Fluid flows freely out of the down line then as the drive goes up. If I leave the down line attached, the pump really seems to bog down, almost like a hydraulic lock, and the drive will not go up with either the trim or trailer button.

Also, when both lines are attached, I cannot get it to go back down with the pump either, despite the fact the pump seems to be running normal. There is a slightly different sound to it though. Removing the "up" line, the weight of the drive is enough to let it back down again.

Not sure if it can be adjusted/repaired, or if I need a new pump.

Thanks,

Re: Trim Pump Issues

Just for $h... and giggles, I reversed the two lines at the pump. Now I can get the drive to go down and stay in the down position, with the up line removed [up on the trim switch] and it will not back go up if I re-attach the other line.

Seems like my pump is definate in need of repair or replacement.

Re: Trim Pump Issues

Put the lines back where they go, then download this manual.
http://www.4shared.com/file/137824786/b5b2f2dc/Service_Manual_11.html

It's the OEM service manual that covers your drive and transom shield, including trim.
Then look at the section on troubleshooting (section 1-C)
It has a complete troublshooting chart. I doubt your problem is what you think it is.
