My manual says to use 10w-30 oil in my trim pump. But the dealer sells Mercruiser part #92-858075K01 power trim & steering fluid. I have a 1988 165 3.7l with alpha1 out drive. It's very confusing. I wonder if either one is good.

Thanks

Re: Trim pump oil

Just get some non-detergent 10w-30 oil... Or just add ATF if you really like....

Re: Trim pump oil

I wouldn't mix engine oil and ATF.

The pump will work on either, but try not to mix them. If it's red, it's ATF, if it's milky colored, it's got water in it.

Re: Trim pump oil

The thing is I updated the pump and reservoir to the four screw white reservoir. It originally had the one screw white plastic container. I lost most of the oil in the cylinders also. The reservoir with the single screw cracked all over.
I had oil on the rear carpet. Now I'm installing the rebuilt trim pump. So, put the 10w-30 non-detergent in and she should be good?:embarassed:

Thanks

Re: Trim pump oil

Well, I put the trim fluid in from mercruiser. ATF with dexron is no good. Mercruiser has the trim pump oil.
It is a clear hydraulic oil for all stern drives. I had to bleed the system. It works ok right now. Time will tell.
It has the updated new pump with white four screw reservoir. :)

Thanks for the info
