1989 OMC Cobra 4.3.

My trim pump now screams and complains when trimming down. Up is much better.

I just rebuilt both trim rams, and I understand that introduces air into the system, but I can't tell any difference after running them up and down 4 or 5 times.

I've refilled the system repeatedly until the level quit dropping after cycling the rams in and out. I've checked it since, it seems to be consistent.

Is it common for the air to take a while to work itself out? Anything else I need to do, like pull the fill plug out every so often or something strange like that?

danond, i just read something about chcking voltage at the wires to the pump. if they dont get enough juice they wont cycle properly? i might try that tomorrow.

I'm not a boat mechanic, but that does sound like the pump is getting air in it. With some cylinders it can take quite a while to get all the air out of them. Little bubbles can get trapped (this is on larger equipment).

Hope that helps.
