trim pump/solenoid question and also hydrofoil

My trim pump is "sticky" on my alpha-1...when i initially put the trim up/down, I have to get a buddy to tap on the motor case to get it to start up...and then once its going it works fine. Is this a sticky solenoid, or the motor? Any way I can test to see which is sticking? I am assuming the pump motor is a bit more expensive than the solenoid.

Also...whats the bottom line on the clip-on "hydrofoils" that fasten to the cavitation plate? Are they worth it? Will I see any improvement? I would love to get better fuel economy, and quicker, cleaner planing, but I have no idea is this is just a gimmick or it actually works. thanks!
